A Digital Telephone-line technology that supports high-speed connections to the Internet (see Internet - Overview) using ordinary Copper telephone wires (see Conductor). Proffered by AT&T as an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) replacement for World Wide Web (WWW) surfers, ADSL is asymmetric because uplink speeds (64 Kbps) differ markedly from downlink speeds (up to 6
Mbps). ADSL is currently available only in selected markets.
