Baud

Measure of the rate at which signals are transmitted over a telecommunications link. It is equivalent to the number of elements or pulses transmitted in one Second, e.g., in Computer input/output, 2400 baud typically equals 2400 bits per second (300 bytes per second, or 18,000 bytes per minute). Because modern data compression techniques can combine several bits in one baud, bits per second has replaced baud as a measure of Modem speed.
