An entity’s address or name under which it sends and receives e-mail and can be
identified on the Internet (see Internet - Overview). Usually a combination of a chosen designation (e.g., an abbreviation of
the company’s name) followed by a period and a generic abbreviation identifying the nature
of the entity. Common entity abbreviations are:
com for commercial
edu for educational
gov of government (U.S. only)
int for organizations established by international treaty or databases
mil for military (U.S. only)
net for network
org for organization
In addition, some countries use two-letter designations (e.g., de for Germany and ca for Canada).
