Uses a bank of solid-state (see Solid-State Physics) inverters to generate (see Generator) a new sinusoidal Waveform when connected to a Direct Current (DC) Energy source or energy storage device. This type of device is connected in a Series Circuit with the Distribution feeder and injects or absorbs a controlled amount of real Power or Reactive Power to the distribution system to maintain line Voltage during a sag without the use of bulky static Capacitors or reactors. When used without the dc power source, the device behaves as Synchronous Condenser capable of injecting or absorbing reactive power. Operation is similar to
the transmission-voltage version of the device, known as Statcom.
