Lived around 300 B.C., Greek mathematician whose treatment of elementary plane Geometry serves as the basis for most beginning courses on the subject. His great
contribution was the use of a deductive system of proof in his Elements, a
presentation of the mathematics of his day in 13 books. Studies of his work in the 19th
century gave rise to several types of Non-Euclidean Geometry.
