Frequency Division Multiplexing

See Also: Multiplex

Converts each conversation into a different Frequency. The frequency of the human voice transmitted over the Telephone network ranges between 300 and 3,300 Hertz (Hz) . The loudest and softest Sounds are filtered out of the system. Assume the transmission media can transmit frequencies ranging from 60-108,000 Hz. By converting the first message to a frequency range between 60 and 4,000 Hz, the second message to a frequency range between 4,000 and 8,000 cycles, etc., multiple conversations can be sent over one voice channel. Once the signal is received, the process is reversed and the signals convert back to normal speaking frequencies.
