UNCLE JOE - SUMO WRESTLER In 1990 Uncle Joe was 6’-2” and weighed 220 pounds. He made a New Year’s resolution to lose twenty pounds and get down to his college-graduation
weight of 200. He would skip breakfast, drink Slim-Fast for lunch, and eat a
simple, low-fat supper. As with most people who go on a diet he immediately started
gaining weight. By early spring he tipped the scales at 300, by the fourth of
July 375, and by deer season 425. When he could no longer steer his Ford
pickup because of his girth he sold it and bought an old UPS delivery truck. One
of the funny things about Uncle Joe was that as he gained more weight the more
Japanese he looked. In early spring, 1991 he tipped the scales at 475 and so he
sold all his belongings and moved to Japan to take up Sumo wrestling. It was
hard for Uncle Joe to get used to Sumo wrestling. Just think of all that
