Locked Rotor Current

See Also: Motor

The Current required to start a motor. Motors, either loaded or unloaded, draw 2 to 8 times normal running current when starting, typically 5 to 6 times. The starting current causes a Voltage dip, usually seen as a dimming of the Lights.

An industrial customer should buy motors with clutches, so they aren’t started under load, and the biggest motors should be started first.
