A more recently (this information comes from 1997) introduced fiber that has been quickly adopted as the fiber to use in very high capacity long-distance networks. The NZ-DSF fiber designs enable multiple signal channels to operate in the 1,530-1,560 nm operating range over long distances. This has now surpassed Dispersion-Shifted Fiber (DSF) fibers as the fibers of choice of the long-distance carriers.
