Pelton Turbine
See Also: Kaplan Turbine, Turbine
The Pelton turbine is a 19th-century model that operates more like a
traditional water wheel. Developed by Lester Allen Pelton, the wheel is designed to
revolve as Water diverted from a reservoir through a penstock strikes its curved buckets. A
nozzle converts the Kinetic Energy of high- Pressure water into a powerful jet, and the buckets extract the momentum.
