Business, industry, and services...

With a population of almost 5,000, Marshfield has experienced steady growth over the past decade, as evidenced by a plenitude of new homes, businesses and industries. Three deep wells, a large wastewater treatment system, natural gas, propane service, and cable television service serve Marshfield. Marshfield has a skilled police force providing 24hour protection, city and rural fire departments, a county-wide recycling system, many services for senior citizens, numerous civic and professional organizations, a large church community, a strong medical community with Enhanced 911 service to be implemented by June, 1998, an ever-growing 160 acre industrial area and is served by a weekly newspaper.

Recreational opportunities abound...

Many opportunities for recreation are available in and around Marshfield. The City boasts eight public parks consisting of more than 66 acres, which offer a community swimming pool, pavilions with grills, horseshoe pits, playground equipment, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, and softball and baseball fields. The Marshfield Country Club is a member owned, open to the public facility that features an 18 hole golf course and restaurant. Hunting and fishing are also common outdoor activities. The Niangua, Finley, James, Osage Fork and Pomme de Terre rivers all originate in Webster County, and Marshfield is within a 100 mile radius of six major lakes. Missouri is known for its numerous caves and Webster county contains some very interesting State Parks.

Schools that produce results...

Marshfield is very proud of its children, as evidenced by an outstanding school system with an enrollment of almost 2,500 students. Students attend classes at two elementary schools, a junior high and high school. Marshfield boasts a strong school sports program which has had six state champion teams in the last decade. Marshfield also has a branch of Columbia College, one private school, and one state school for the handicapped. Located in nearby Springfield are another five accredited colleges and universities.

And never a dull moment...

Tourism is a major industry in southwest Missouri and many attractions abound in and around Marshfield. Bass Pro is located in Springfield, Exotic Animal Paradise is located six miles west of Marshfield, and Branson with its numerous attractions is just over an hour away. The home of Laura Ingalls Wilder is located in nearby Mansfield. The Dickey House, Walnut Springs Farm, Frontier Theatre, the Hubble Telescope replica, and the Amish Community provide local tourism attractions.

A growing city with plenty to boast...

Marshfield, the county seat of Webster County, is located in southwest Missouri, where State Highway 38 crosses Interstate 44. It is situated in the center of the county, a metropolitan classified county that has ranked for many decades as a leader in Missouri in numbers of dairy cattle.

Marshfield is a rapidly growing community, recording a 6.9 percent growth rate from 1990 through 1995. It is located in a county with a growth rate of 12.9 percent. The statewide growth rate is 3 percent.

Marshfield also boasts a number of industries, with many new industries choosing to locate in the 160 acre Marshfield industrial area. The civilian labor force in Webster County is 12,748.

Marshfield has the highest elevation of any town on Interstate 44 east of the Rocky Mountains. Although it gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter, the average temperature is quite pleasant. Usually, lengthy periods of extreme cold or excessive heat are rare.
